Home Detox Services UK

Trying to arrange Home Alcohol Detox Services doesn’t have to be complicated. In the first instance, we invite you to speak, without charge, to one of our in-house addictions clinicians. They all have many years (sometimes decades) of experience treating patients at home and in rehab centres, private hospitals, prisons and local authority commissioned services.

Home Alcohol Detox Services

Being able to detox at home means being in familiar surroundings with people you know. There are those for whom going into a group setting is just too overwhelming and those who, despite group confidentiality, fear others finding out they are in recovery.

What is a Home Detox?

Instead of going into a rehab centre, a clinician will attend your home (and for some high end executives and VIP;s, your hotel suite) and provide the same service as if you were in a rehab centre. They will assess you, provide a diagnosis and a treatment plan. Nursing staff will monitor you and administer medication while a therapist will work with you to look at why you became addicted and help you develop a mental toolkit so as to prevent a relapse.

Depending on your individual needs, support staff may be staying with you 24/7 if you aren’t able to secure the assistance of a loved one/family member: At least for the first few days.

What is the Process For Arranging a Home Detox?

When you call Find Me a Rehab you will be speaking to an experienced addictions clinician who will be able to advise you as to whether you are suitable and the logistics of arranging a home detox for you. They will need to ask you questions about your current and previous alcohol and drug use as well relevant medical history and prescribed medication.

If you are suitable then a date can be pencilled in for you to start a detox at home. Usually, home treatments tend to be started on a Monday for logistical reasons though this is not set in stone. We always try and work around our patients commitments so will work with you to arrange what suits you.

Does My GP Need to Know?

No but our addictions clinicians always advise that you involve your GP. If you would rather not, your clinician may want to see a medical summary. Your surgery can print one out for you, without charge, and you do not need to explain why. It is common for people to ask for these for occupational health, insurance claims, etc. Modern day healthcare computer systems allow reception staff to print these at the touch of a button. They do not need a doctor or nurse to write anything.

Who Can Have a Home Detox?

For reasons of clinical safety, not everyone can have a detox at home. Usually, this service is for alcohol, though it can also be provided for heroin, cocaine and crack. On rare occasions, substances such as GHB/GBL, Ketamine can be considered: On a case by case basis.

While every patient is different, there are some general exclusion criteria that usually apply:

  • Had a detox within the last six months
  • Prone to seizures not related to alcohol withdrawal
  • Poor physical health
  • High risk of self harm/suicide
  • Certain prescribed medications
  • Amount of drugs/alcohol being used

Home Detox Internet Scams

Sadly, there are a lot of scammers on the internet who operate in this area. They will charge you nearly £1,900 for £15 worth of medication. They are doing this illegally. You have no comeback if something goes wrong and no support at home. All you get is, literally, some pills in the post.

When a doctor, on the General Medical Council (GMC) specialist register for addictions, works in a Care Quality Commission (CQC) registered service they can take on private patients without separate registration. A “side hustle” so to say. While there are nurse/pharmacist and paramedic prescribers who work in the NHS and private/local authority services they can not provide home detox’s to private patients without CQC registration.

Home Alcohol Detox Services

To date (November 2025) there are no companies, registered with the CQC that provide this service as a standalone provision. Thus, where a doctor, using the exemption above, provides this additional service they must be involved in all aspects of care. This means the doctor must assess you, take payment, prescribed the medication and supervise you at home. As soon as you involve another person who is being paid to be there (a nurse or support worker) this breaks the exemption.

A lot of companies will simply tell you that they do not need this registration: This is incorrect. The person you speak to is not a clinician but a salesperson who has targets to meet. They will, very quickly, want payment of the full amount before you get to speak to someone who is clinically qualified. In the event that you are not suitable for treatment, a refund will be a long time coming.

Is A Home Detox More Cost Effective Than Rehab?

No. When you engage a doctor to provide a home detox it usually costs more than a week in a rehab centre. While there are only a few centres that will admit you for a week (most have a minimum of 10 days to 14 days) you receive a full hotel service, 24 hour medical and nursing care as well as therapy. A home detox is just that.

Most people who have a detox at home will relapse: very quickly. When you stop drinking/taking drugs, the reason why you started drinking is still there and your brain is no longer blunted by alcohol or drugs. You will experience cravings: This is nothing to do with lack of willpower but a scientific reality. Only a rehab centre can provide the therapeutic environment you need to deal with cravings and develop the skills to avoid relapse.

How Can Find Me a Rehab Help?

Our experienced addictions clinicians have treated hundreds of patients at home. They will be able to tell you if you are suitable and, if you are, discuss a treatment plan. We do not charge for this. If you decide you want treatment they will suggest residential treatment (this is an ethical requirement) but should you decide you want to stay at home for treatment they can arrange it.

Should you decide you want residential treatment the clinician you speak to will refer you: Without charge.
