There are many detox and rehab centres in the UK.
Knowing which one is the right fit for you need not be a minefield.
We are clinicians and it matters not to us where you go just that you make an informed choice and don’t spend any more than you need to.
What centres do
Are you trying to find a Detox and Rehab Centre UK? Well, they are actually the same thing. There are, in fact, only a very few that are rehab only. The overwhelming vast majority provide both detox and rehab.
As experienced addictions clinicians who work in rehab centres, we often recommend the best Detox and Rehab Centre UK has to offer.
- NHS and Local Authority Commissioned services
- Private Hospitals
- GP addiction shared care services
- Prisons
Use our knowledge for free
We understand what help you need and can signpost you to the most appropriate (and low cost) centre. There are not as many centres in the UK as you might think.
While the internet is awash with adverts, most of the locations are not actual rehab centres but serviced office addresses.
This is a marketing ploy to attract people searching for a Detox and Rehab Centre UK.
How Can Find Me a Rehab Help?
We are clinicians: Experienced in the field of addictions and we work with people, daily, who are in recovery from addiction.
Use our experience
We assess, diagnose and prescribe detox medication and draw up treatment plans. While we are not therapists, we are familiar with all aspects of the various therapy approaches and have a specialist addictions clinician we work with for home treatment clients.
If we can not answer your question, he can.
While knowing what you do need is important, so is knowing what you don’t. The essential elements of addiction treatment haven’t changed: They don’t need to. What you need is:
- Detox (if necessary)
- Group therapy
- Supplementary individual therapy (one session a week)
- Relapse prevention skills workshops
- Aftercare
Avoiding unnecessary costs
There are centres that provide additional, bolt on, treatments. They are completely safe and will do you no harm, whatsoever. However, they are very costly and this cost will be passed on to you: The client.
Organic green tea, yoga with miniature goats, gong baths and shakra realignment. All very nice but no real benefit.

Why Do Some People Not Need a Detox?
Drugs, as well as alcohol and prescribed medication (even Caffeine) work on receptors in your brain. In essence, they either open or close chemical channels which, in turn, release or prevent the release of naturally occurring chemicals into the body.
Some will partially open or close these channels: But let’s keep it simple!
Physiological tolerance
After a period of time taking drugs/alcohol the brain becomes used to their presence.
If you stop taking drugs/alcohol, or cut down your use too quickly, the brain goes into a state of flux and the wrong messages are sent out. It is this that causes withdrawal.
These chemical releases or stoppages are what make you have seizures, lower your mood, etc. Detox has absolutely nothing to do with “flushing toxins” out of your system but everything to do with science.
Substitute prescribing
Detox medication mimics the actions that the alcohol or drugs had. Thus, for example, with alcohol a benzodiazepine is used which works on the same receptors, in the same way.
The amount of medication you will take, and the frequency, will reduce over a period of time until you are recovered.
Only have a detox if you need one
If you were to have a detox when you don’t need one the medication will be acting on receptors for the first time so you will experience the full effects: This could be dangerous.
Some drugs are very short acting, such as Cocaine. As such there is no detox for Cocaine.
However, your in-house addictions clinician at the Centre may well prescribe a short course of adjunctive medication to help you at any Detox and Rehab Centre UK.
Why Do I Need Rehab?
While we offer treatment at home, very few people can undergo this for safety reasons. Those that do are warned that they are very likely to relapse: Quickly.
Limitations of home treatment
Treatment at home can never provide the therapy that residential rehab provides. Sadly, some people relapse after residential treatment. They think they can do it themselves, at home, with medication: They can’t.
You wouldn’t try and fix a broken leg at home if you had been in hospital with previous fractures.
Addiction is not a choice but a very serious illness with a high mortality rate. Addiction kills: Fact. People drink and/or take drugs to try and blot out what is going wrong for them.
Addiction is a symptom
There may be childhood trauma that has never been talked about, PTSD or other untreated mental health conditions.

Key Takeaways
- Finding the right Detox And Rehab Centre UK is manageable with informed choices and clinician guidance.
- Many centers offer both detox and rehab services, but be wary of misleading ads that don’t represent actual facilities.
- Clinicians offer free consultations to help you choose the most appropriate and cost-effective treatment options.
- Detox may not be necessary for everyone; understanding your physiological tolerance is crucial.
- Aftercare is essential for successful recovery, providing ongoing support to prevent relapse.
When you stop drinking/taking drugs the thoughts you suppressed will come to the fore. The therapy sessions and groups will help you work through these and manage your emotions.
Relapse prevention
One of the essential elements of rehab is relapse prevention. Knowing how to navigate situations and people, when you go home, that could be tricky is absolutely essential.
Relapse can happen but it doesn’t need to be catastrophic. If you have the right psychological tools you can overcome it.
Aftercare
Aftercare: The final link in the chain. All centres offer a minimum of a years aftercare. This will be telephone check in and support as well as a weekly group (in person, if you live close enough, or via video conferencing).
Can I Speak To A Clinician For Free?
Yes.
We only charge for treatment at home.
Anyone is welcome to call (or email) us to ask for advice on treatment, where they can go and how much it will cost, whether it be for a Detox and Rehab Centre UK or elsewhere.

The clinician you speak to may work many miles away from where you want to go for treatment, it doesn’t matter as they have a weekly updated spreadsheet with all the information they need to advise you.

No.
For us this is a very straightforward (confidential) email. We do not charge for this. The only time we charge is if you have treatment at home.
We can refer you to any centre in the UK that is registered with the Care Quality Commission, ensuring you find a reliable Detox and Rehab Centre UK. It is a legal requirement for all centres to be registered with them.
