Find Out MoreWhat is the cost of alcohol detox and why do I need it?
When you drink alcohol, just as when you take prescribed medication and street drugs certain receptors in the brain are activated.
This is why you experience the pleasureable effects of alcohol when you first start drinking.
In time, if you drink constantly and throughout the larger part of the day, your brain will become used to the alcohol and will adapt the way it works.
This is known as tolerance.
The problem is, when you reach a state of tolerance you will need ever increasing amounts of alcohol to have the same effect as when you started drinking.
If you stop drinking, or reduce too quickly, your brain simply won't be able to make immediate changes to accomodate.
While the brain scrabbles around to try and fix the problem, incorrect chemical messaging occurs. This is what causes the physical symptoms known as withdrawals.
Symptoms of withdrawal can start within 4-6 hours.
Left untreated they will worsen.
Seizures, coma and fatality are not uncommon in untreated cases of alcohol withdrawal. You can experience vivid halluncinations as well as delirium.
It isn't just a case of a slight trembling in your hands.
Alcohol withdrawal, without treatment will lead, invariably, to an acute medical emergency: or worse.
Treatment is not expensive and is, relatively straightforward.

What is alcohol detox?
In short, alcohol detox is about using prescribed medication (benzodiazepines) to replace the alcohol on your receptors.
As soon as your blood alcohol level (the amount of alcohol in your blood) is low enough for you to start medication, the staff will administer it.
A quick breathyliser test (using the same machine the police used at the roadside) is used to assist when determining when you are safe to start.
This is because the medication and the alcohol work on the same receptors so it is important that your alcohol level is low enough that you don't overdose on the medication.
It may take a day or two to settle on the medication before it is reduced so you can detox.
Within your prescription will be top up medication in case you need it (usually for the first couple of days) and some other medication to help with any feelings of sickess, loose stools, etc.
These are on an "as and when" basis. Some people need them: Some don't. Everyone is different.
The number of days you will need to be on medication is determinate on a number of factors including:
* How much you have been drinking
* What you are drnking
* How long you have been drinking
* Existing medical conditions
* Prescribed medication
* Concurrent drug use
Why do I need rehab?
Detox alone doesn't work.
It is akin to putting a plaster on a gun shot wound.
Recovery from alcohol addiction requires four elements:
* Detox
* Therapy
* Relapse prevention
* Aftercare
Alcohol numbs your brains responses to emotional situations and affects your mood. It is a depressant.
Some people drink to subdue traumatic thoughts and to forget about difficult emotions and emotional responses.
People drink because they are anxious, depressed, stressed. Sometimes all three.
When you stop drinking your brain, in short order, begins to recovery.
The emotions you were blunting with alcohol and the thoughts you were supressing are now back in play.
Without the therapy to address the underlying issues that led you to drinking and the skills needed to tackle relapse with sufficent aftercare, a rapid relapse is very likely.
While we can arrange home treatment, with individual therapy, the cost can well exceed the cost of residential treatment and the success rate is never as good.

How long do I need to be in rehab for alcohol?
A standard detox and rehab programme in a fully CQC registered rehab centre is a 28 day programme which can cost as little as £6,950.
No centre in the UK offers a detox without rehab.
You may be able to go into rehab for a week, but it depends, entirely on whether or not your admitting clinician feels you are able to safely detox in a week: Many can't.
Usually, those who are able to be admitted for a week are those who are drinking less than 30 units a day, have no serious underlying conditions and are not on certain types of medication.
Those who have had a detox within the last six months are not, usually, suitable for short admissions.
Most alcohol detox's can be completed within 10 to 14 days. While there are only a very small number of centres that will accept people for a week, there are a larger number that will accept clients for 10 days-14 days.
All centres offer a 28 day programme.
For those who want to make a deeper commitment, centres offer a three month programme.

What is the cost of the alcohol detox UK if I stay for more than a week?
Seven day residiential programmes start from £1,975 for a fully inclusive treatment plan.
The costs increase in-line with the amount of days you spend in rehab:
10 days: £2,800
14 days: £3,850
21 days: £5,575
28 days: £6,950
5 weeks: £8,600
6 weeks: £10,300
8 weeks: £13,500
9 weeks: £15,100
10 weeks: £16,700
12 weeks: £20,000

What is the difference between a low cost rehab centre and a high end one?
In terms of recovery?
Absolutelty nothing!
There are only four essential elements to recovery from addiction
* Detox
* Group therapy
* Relapse prevention skills
* Aftercare
The best way to think about it is to compare it to booking a flight.
If you book a seat in economy you will get to the destination at the same time as someone in first class.
The same outcome is achieved: You get to where you wanted to get to but the experience in getting there may be different.
If the flight is delayed by poor weather or the plane late to arrive for you to board by tecnical issues everyone is inconvienianced: No matter if you turn left or right when you get on.
Both provide the essentials but the more expensive option has some bolt on's which aren't essential but a nice touch.
The same can be said for rehab.
Spending a lot of money on rehab is not only wholly unecessary, but it won't make any difference to your recovery.
If you want to drink organic hand pressed carrot juice, practice yoga with a hand reared minature Himalayn goat while chanting Shakras with a Guru flown in from Bali this can be arranged.
It will cost you five times more than a standard 28 day programme and won't actually, make any difference.
Why do Find Me a Rehab want me to book a low cost centre?
We are clinicians and not sales people.
Our concern is that you get the most effective treatment, not the most expensive.
Unlike other referral agencies, our primary concern is not how much you spend but rather that you spend wisely and achieve the best care for the lowest cost.
Sure, if you want to access a high end centre we can certainly signpost and refer you to one.
Other referral companies are solely interested in maximising their commission which is why they want to upsell things you really don't need.
It just wouldn't sit right for us to try and get you to part with money you don't need to.

Still Have Questions on the cost of alcohol detox UK?
Call UsWould I be better off in a private hospital to have detox and rehab treatment?
One of our clinicians undertook advanced prescribing training at the Priory Roehampton with the worlds leading expert in addiction medicine.
The cost of a month at the Priory is over £28,000.
You can not go in for a shorter period.
While you would have a consultant psychiatrist in charge of your care, the treatment plan and process is exactly the same as any other rehab centre:
* Detox
* Group therapy
* Relapse prevention
* Aftercare
The only difference is that you would be seen by the consultant in ward round once a week.
In a private hospital the same rules apply:
You must atttend all groups and meetings, on time. The medication you would recieve, if applicable, would be exactly the same and the nursing/support worker care would also be identical. Being in a private hospital doesn't mean any difference in the treatment process.
You are paying for a brand. If you opt for a lower cost centre the same treatment plan can be accessed for £6,950.
What are the costs in various centres?
In the UK there are centres that are independently run and those that are part of a chain.
Independently run centres tend to be less expensive that chain run centres.
As most centres offer a minimum of a 2 week stay (if appropriate) we have listed some 28 day options, around the country as a comparator:
Wales: £7,950
Midlands: £6,950
Oxfordshire: £15,750
Guildford £15,750
East Sussex £11,495
Bedfordshire £10,495
Cheshire £18,000
Halton £8,795
Bradford £9,995
Yorkshire £10,995

Find Out MoreHow long do I need in rehab to recover from addiction?
The amount of time you will need in rehab determines the cost.
Unlike booking a holiday, the time you can book for, as a minimum, depends entirely on your clinical need.
For an example, if you are heavily dependent on alcohol and need a medication assisted detox, this will take an absolute minimum of seven to ten days.
Again, it depends on a number of factors but, usually, can not be negotiated.
Your safety is the absolute priority.
Clients who are opioid dependent, for example, will require a longer admission. Rapid detoxing is unsafe and no reputable centre would offer one.
A rapid detox puts you at very significant risk as you would leave rehab in withdrawal with no tolerance to opioids. The risk is that you would try and relieve your withdrawals with an amount of opioids you feel will settle you.
Invariably, this amount would lead to overdose.
The same applies to benzodiazpeines and a number of other substances.

What is the lowest cost of alcohol detox for a week?
Mild alcohol and stimulant (cocaine) dependency can be addressed with a combination of residential and outpatient recovery.
No centre would accept you for less than a week.
A seven day admission can be achieved from as little as £1,975 a week.
This includes everything you need for a safe detox:
* Medical supervision
* Prescribed detox medication
* Hotel services (full catering, housekeeping,etc)
* Group therapy
* Relapse prevention
*Aftercare
For those seeking treatment at home, we always advise clients to seek residential treatment as it is inherently safer and often far less expensive.
Why do all centres reccomend a 28 day programme?
Detox, alone, is only one element of recovery from addiction.
Your brain will not start to absorb the essential elements of therapy, relapse prevention and aftercare until it has returned to a more normal level of functioning.
Some people can starts groups on their first day, others may need to wait a day or two due to the physical effects of detox.
All centres follow a gradiated therapy programme: Either a 12 step, SMART or eclectic approach.
This means that, when following the programme, there will be elements completed along the way.
28 days gives you the opportunity to make very significant progress in your recovery.
That, in no way, means that your treatment ends when you leave.
Rehab is only the very beginning of the process. It gives you the springboard you need to achieve long term recovery.
What about NHS treatment?
The NHS has a duty of care towards you. However this extends to only what is reasonable in the circumstances.
If you stop drinking and go to Accident and Emergency they will treat you only to the point where you are no longer at risk.
The NHS is not funded (unless the service is commissioned) to treat alcohol use disorder accident and emergency departments are never funded for this.
They will, if needed, give you medication to stop your immediate symptoms of withdrawal and then send you home with advice on how much to drink in order to stave off your withdrawals.
There may be an alcohol liaision team member of staff on duty who can give you advice on local services.
Only, if absolutely necessary, and your life depends on it, will they admit you and only until you can be discharged: Safely.
You can not cheat the system!
We can signpost you to your local, free to use, services that are provided by your local council.
They might fund a very short admission for a detox but their funding is very, very limited and all requests for admission must be supported by your keyworker at the service and there are many hoops to jump through.
You simply won't be admitted after your first appointment. It might take months or it may not even be available.
