What to Expect From UK Detox Clinics? Safe, evidenced based cost effective care.
UK detox clinics offer both rehabilitation and detoxification services; moreover, they do so at the same time.
Detox alone will never work.
Rehab consists of four essential elements: Detox, therapy, relapse prevention and aftercare.
Recovery functions as a continuous cycle; removing any element breaks that cycle.
If detox alone worked, then good! However, the sad fact is that it doesn’t.
Furthermore, all rehab centres provide all four elements within a treatment programme.
In addition, every centre provides treatment for alcohol and cocaine; moreover, some also provide treatment for opioids and benzodiazepines.
While some rehabs use a 12 STEP model, others, on the other hand, use a SMART one or an eclectic mix
Our experienced addictions clinicians work in rehab centres. Let them guide you through.

Before a rehab centre admits you, its team must be confident that they can meet your needs and provide an appropriate treatment plan.
First, you will have a telephone assessment or a video conference with an admissions advisor; subsequently, the advisor will then share that information with a clinician.
Additionally, you may need a medical summary from your GP surgery. Therefore, ask the reception staff for it – you don’t need to explain why. In fact, modern NHS systems allow reception and admin staff to quickly prepare these summaries.
Blood tests
Moreover, you may also need blood tests. If, for instance, your GP won’t arrange tests, you can get them done inexpensively at a local lab. Consequently, please provide accurate information during your pre-admission assessment so the team can fully prepare for your care.
Furthermore, if you need transport to rehab, we can usually arrange it.
Finally, for some people, stopping drinking or drugs and using public transport isn’t safe; nonetheless, we are here to support you in your recovery journey.
Admission Day
Rehab centres stagger admissions throughout the day for your safety, and we will give you a specific arrival time. Furthermore, we have a cut-off time for daily admissions; therefore, please be mindful of your scheduled arrival.
On arrival, our staff will greet and welcome you to the centre. In addition, we usually offer a cup of tea, knowing you may have travelled a long way and feel nervous – but please, don’t be.
Shared experience
Consequently, our staff will do everything they can to make you feel comfortable. Moreover, many of our team are in recovery themselves; as a result, they understand what you’re going through because they’ve been in your shoes.
Safety
People entering rehab often feel upset and distressed. Sometimes they pack quickly and accidentally bring prohibited items with them. Staff will search your belongings with you to ensure no unsafe items are present.
Every centre will have a list of excluded items which will usually include:
- Alcohol
- Drugs
- Glass bottles
- Electrical items*
- Cameras
- Sharp items*
- Large amounts of cash*
- Medications not prescribed*
* Safety protocols permitting
Assessment with In House Clinician
After you enjoy a cup of tea and a tour, you will, subsequently, meet with our in-house clinician.
They will review your pre-admission assessment, so, in turn, they will understand your reasons for seeking help and how they can best support you.
If necessary, the clinician will, accordingly, prescribe medication to help you through detox. Additionally, the clinician will discuss your medical history and current medications (if you take any). Furthermore, they will answer your questions and explain the detox process.
Nursing staff
Our nursing and support staff will, meanwhile, take your vital signs and assess your withdrawal symptoms using standardized tools.
Because of how detox medication works, we may, therefore, delay starting medication for several hours – this ensures your safety.
For alcohol clients, we use a breathalyzer as part of the standardized assessment
UK detox rehab centres : Observations
Detox medication needs careful monitoring.
A detox prescription is not an exact science. Sometimes you will need less medication: Sometimes more. Everyone is different. Clinical observations help to determine changes to your treatment plan.
Going into rehab can be a difficult time, emotionally. It is common practice for rehab centres to observe you, a little more closely, for the first day or two.
This could be just checking on you, visually, every hour for the first day or two. There is nothing to worry about: This is perfectly normal.
UK detox rehab centres : Introduction to Therapy
Rehab centres worldwide use a group therapy model; moreover, they enhance it with individual therapy.
They offer 12 STEP, SMART, or eclectic approaches; therefore, the specific model doesn’t impact your recovery. Additionally, you don’t need religious beliefs to benefit from a 12 STEP program.
On your first day, the lead or senior therapist will assess you with a therapy assessment, provided you are physically able. However, if withdrawal symptoms make it difficult, we can assess you the next day.
Consequently, we will tailor your weekly individual therapy to available models and your specific needs. As soon as you’re physically ready, we will, in fact, welcome you into therapy groups and sessions

UK detox rehab centres : Relapse Prevention
Therapy will help you to deal with the reasons why you were drinking and taking drugs. Furthermore, you will learn how to regulate your emotions and make more positive choices in the future.
In addition, what you also need to know is how to prevent yourself from getting back to the situation you were in leading to admission. Consequently, this is where relapse prevention skills training comes in.
Specifically, the programme delivers this element in both group and individual sessions. Moreover, role plays are a useful element of relapse prevention.

UK detox rehab centres :Aftercare
When you go home, you will have a new sense of self. Additionally, you may experience a newfound level of energy. Furthermore, there may be a feeling that you need to make up for lost time.
In your relapse prevention skills development, you will learn to pace yourself and not to go in, all guns blazing. Indeed, it is understandable that you want to prove your sobriety and abstinence and achieve your life goals.
When you detox from drugs, alcohol, and behavioral addiction, it can take your brain up to one year to recover.
Dealing with cravings
During that time, you may experience cravings. Although your relapse prevention skills will give you the tools to deal with these, there may be times when you struggle. This is where aftercare comes in.
Moreover, every rehab center provides a minimum of a year’s aftercare. Specifically, we typically provide regular telephone check-ins and a weekly support group, which is available both remotely and in person.
If you find yourself struggling, there will be a number to call for dedicated support

Legalising Drugs Doesn’t Work
Legalising drugs doesn't work. If someone invented alcohol today, they would certainly ban it. Indeed, many argue that legalizing drugs fails for this very reason. Furthermore, the NHS spends billions every year treating illnesses caused by alcohol. For some, the evidence appears clear that legalising drugs doesn't work and cannot resolve these health issues. Ultimately,…
