For the financial year 2021-2022 the county experienced a 10.7% increase in drug related offences. During this period, Hampshire had a total of 1,443 new presentations to local statutory drug and alcohol services. Of this number, 20% (293) were parents with at least one child living at home. A further 492 (34%) had children who were not living with them.

Hospital admission data for drugs in Hampshire is difficult to obtain. Figures for Southampton are available, but only for the 15-24 age group.  The admission rates for this cohort has been rising steadily , in line with the average for England.  For the period 2013-2014 to 2015-2016, the rate rose from 96.6 per 100,000 adults to 109.5 per 100,000 adults in 2015-2016 to 2016-2017.  The figures reduced to 101.8 per 100,000 in 2018-2019 to 2020-2021. However, this was still very significantly higher than the average for England at 91.2 per 100,000 adults.

The drug death rate in the county is also difficult to establish due to a paucity of published figures. Those published reveal that between 2019-2021 , for every 100,000 adults, 8 people died from drug poisoning. This is three times the rate as for females

Local government research suggests that nearly half of those in Hampshire (44.7%) who use opioids/crack are not in contact with local services. This demonstrates a high level of unmet need. For every 1000  adults in Southampton, for example,  5 are in treatment in specialist drug services. This is slightly higher than the average for England which sits at 4.

During 2021, for those in treatment who were drug dependent (non opioid) 41.5% successfully completed their course of treatment. The measurement being that they did not re-present within the subsequent 6 months. This is an significant increase from 28.8% in 2020 and sits above the average for England at 34.3%. For those

This is a steep increase from 28.9% in 2020 and now statistically significantly higher than England (34.3%). For opioid users, 5.6% successfully completed the program higher than England (5.0%).

With regards to alcohol, men are admitted to hospital far more times then women, indeed for some alcohol related conditions it can be up to three fold. Admissions to hospital for alcohol in Southampton have fallen over the past decade reducing to 61.7 admissions per 100,00 from 102.5 (last set of figures from 2020-2021)

For private/fee paying clients accessing treatment in Hampshire is quite straightforward to arrange. Where required, and clinically appropriate (depending on availability) same day admission can be arranged. The large clinic chains and referral agents will tell you that there are numerous private centers in Hampshire/Isle of Wight. This simply is not true. By using postbox addresses and serviced office mail services they purport to have centers in every town, hamlet and postcode in the country. Often, and without permission, they use imagery from centers  they do not own, which has led to complaints to the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA). They do this simply because they want you to call them.  No one has a centre on the Isle of Wight

There are centers close to Hampshire , both low cost and high end. Paul can advise you on cost, location, availability and treatment options.
