Over 68.4% of deaths, recorded in Northern Ireland in 2021, were recorded as having involved two drugs: or even more than two. This can be seen against the figures for 2011 when the figure was only 52.9%.  For the whole of .Ireland, the figures were highest in Belfast.

Overall, the number of drug-related deaths registered in the North of Ireland, in2021 (212) was less than the peak of 218  in 2020 but was the second highest since records began. What is of serious concern is that 73.6% were men and, of very serious concern, is that the highest cohort were young adults between the ages of 25-34.

The most common drug type recorded as a cause of death were opioids and were mentioned in 59.4% of deaths recorded as being due to drugs. However, as is being seen in other areas, deaths involving psychoactive substances also increased from 51 in 2020 to 72 in 2021.

Alcohol continues to be a significant issue in Northern Ireland with the number of drug related deaths where alcohol played a significant part rose from 30 in 2020 to 46 in 2021.

Statutory services, in Northern Ireland, are provided through the health board.

Referrals can only be made through a GP and clinics are held across Belfast.

For fee paying/private clients, despite what other websites will try and tell

you, there are no private centres anywhere in N.Ireland. The big chains, and

referral agencies, will advertise that they facilities in the North. Trust  me: They do not.

Clients often find this message difficult to swallow and will call around, only to discover the uncomfortable truth that, despite the glossy adverts, and the false claims that they have centres in Belfast and around N.Ireland, they are simply trying to get you to pick up the phone. Sure, there are centres in the South of Ireland, but they are prohibitively expensive. Treatment on the mainland (UK) is less than a quarter of the cost of treatment in the south.

While it is an inconvenience, there are a multitude of centres that are easy to access from N.Ireland. Indeed, centres will , on request, have a staff member meet you at the airport/ferry port. You can access both low cost and high end centers, very easily, from Belfast. Call and speak to Paul to discuss your needs, options and costings.
