If you need home detox services UK or alcohol addiction rehab treatment call and speak to Paul on 0333 041 9922. He can help you with alcohol addiction recovery UK.
What is the Sinclair Method?
The Sinclair method is a way of reducing/stopping alcohol consumption using a medication called Naltrexone. A very similar drug, Nalmefene, can also be used. The process is known as extinction. Very simply, by taking Naltrexone/Nalmefene 90 minutes before you consume alcohol, your feelings of euphoria and relaxation will be diminished. Over time, your desire to drink will also diminish because the alcohol simply won’t do what it has previously done for you.
Is the Sinclair method new?
No. It has been around for many years.
Can I get Naltrexone/Nalmefene on the NHS?
No. Well, yes and no. The only time an NHS GP can write you an NHS prescription for Naltrexone is if the surgery is commissioned for shared care drug and alcohol services funded by the local authority. 99% of NHS GP services are not.
How long do I need to take Naltrexone for?
Research differs, but ordinarily: 3-9 months.
Can it be used as a detox?
No! Naltrexone/Nalmefene can not be used to detox from alcohol. If you are alcohol dependent (i.e. drink from early in the morning onwards and get physical symptoms if you stop) then you need a detox. Call and speak to Paul on 0333 041 9922. He is an expert on alcohol addiction recovery UK. Not only can he arrange alcohol addiction rehab treatment he can also arrange home detox services UK.
Will I need blood tests?
That depends on a person's medical history and the clinician prescribing treatment.
Are there any excluded groups?
- Pregnant women
- Severe liver damage
- Significant reduction in kidney function
How many tablets a day do I take?
One 50MG tablet a day is usually prescribed. On the first day, half a tablet is taken. This is known as tolerance testing.
Naltrexone is an opioid antagonist, does this mean I cannot take it if I am on opioid medication?
Not necessarily. This needs to be discussed with the prescribing clinician.
