Are you looking for Free Rehab Advice UK? We are a group of experienced addictions clinicians who work in private rehab centres, private hospitals, GP shared care services, NHS and local authority commissioned services and prisons.

Using an app, when you call, whomever is free will take your call and give you honest and impartial advice. The clinician you speak to will be able to advise you on what treatment plan you need, where you should go for treatment and an accurate picture of the cost.

As clinicians, we are not here to sell you anything and you can not pay us for our advice or for us to make a referral for you: We provide this service at no charge. Our advice is impartial, confidential and honest. We will only signpost you to what you need.

Why Do We Provide Free Rehab Advice UK?

The UK addiction treatment sector is awash with people who are only interested in your credit card and do not have your best interests at heart. A perfect example can be found here: Fines of £60,780 issued following the CQC prosecution of an unlawful substance misuse service based in Liverpool – Care Quality Commission

As with all fields of healthcare there is a difference between what is clinically necessary and what someone will tell you that you need. In the field of addictions, while there are new therapeutic approaches and adjunctive medications, there is really only a few essential elements to recovery:

  • Detox: Not everyone will need one. Indeed, if you don’t need one it would be dangerous to have one. This is because the medication used for detox replaces alcohol/drugs on receptors in your brain. If you don’t need a detox and you had one, it would put you at risk of a medical emergency
  • Group therapy: This is the mainstay of recovery. It has been around since the 1930’s and has saved millions of lives across the world for just under a hundred years. There are those who will tell you it is not for them: Nothing could be further from the truth. It works, if you work at it.
  • Relapse prevention: Learning how to prevent yourself relapsing, or what to do if you should, is essential. The therapy you have in rehab will give you this
  • Aftercare: Rehab is a safe, warm supportive bubble. When you leave you will not have the 24/7 support you had while detoxing and getting therapy. Having the support of the rehab centre, while you are back at home, can make all the difference.

What Other Treatments Are Needed?

There are lots of additional treatments available such as gong baths, individual therapy, massage therapy, scream therapy, etc. None of these will do you any harm but neither will they provide any additional benefits.

All rehab centres provide, when you stay for more than a week, a weekly session of individual therapy: To have more than one session a week is not productive. Addiction recovery works on a group therapy model. Individual therapy has it’s place, but it’s role is limited.

Additional therapies cost and this is built in to what you pay for a centre. There really is no actual benefit from this bolt on treatments but they can really push up the cost of treatment. Herbal tea, shakra reading and stroking lamas is all very nice but, in the long run, is not going to help you.

What are Referral Agents?

In the addiction sector there are independent rehab centres, chains and also referral agents who don’t own a rehab centre, but make out they do.

Using post box addresses they invest, heavily, in websites that make it look as though they have rehab centres across the UK. They will want your name and phone number as soon as possible. While you are speaking to them they will be sending your details to all of the private rehab centres so as to mark their flag in the sand.

When they send your details, should you book with that rehab, the referral agent will earn a very sizeable commission: Up to 30% of your admission fee. Sometimes up to 50%. One notorious company will send your name and phone number to every single rehab centre after signposting you to the one they think can charge you the most. When they send your details to the other centres they will, deliberately, change your phone number by altering one digit. This is to ensure no one can call you but that they can still claim commission if you book elsewhere.

Why Are Referral Agents so Unscrupulous?

The referral sector is completely unregulated. While companies spend a fortune on websites, you will be speaking to someone working from their kitchen table on a laptop. Most are not even based in the UK. Two of the most notorious ones are based in Cyprus and Thailand. They use people in the UK who have no experience, at all, of addictions. Indeed, there staff have never even been to the centres they are trying to sell you.

Referral agents have sales targets because that is what they are: Salespeople. They will contact you, day and night, for years. Every call they received is reviewed by the company owner and the call taker will be grilled as to why you did not book. The company in Thailand is known to send an invoice to the rehab centre, for their commission, within half an hour of your admission.

What Promises Do Referral Agents Make?

Our clinicians have heard it all! Promises of swimming pools, fully equipped gyms, acres of landscaped gardens . Things that you don’t need, would be dangerous if you were detoxing and would only bump up the cost.

A swimming pool would be incredibly dangerous for someone on detox medication, as would gym equipment. In any event, you are in rehab to recover from addiction, not to train for the Olympics. Most centres have a small gym area with some equipment for your free time.

Referral agents are trained to sell: and sell hard. They will work on words you introduce. If you say “Is there a swimming pool” they will tell you that there is one.

Regardless of whether you go into treatment they will continue to contact you, relentlessly, for years to come.

There are nowhere near as many centres in the UK as referral agents will have you think. One, in particular, advertises a centre that has never existed. They lifted pictures from Rightmove of a country house and have fabricated a completely false rehab centre. When you call they will tell you the centre is closed for refurbishment or full up. The owner also had two centres closed down after a prosecution but continued to advertise so she could sell your details: For commission.
