Is there any 24 Hour Addiction Help available? Actually there is. We are experienced addictions clinicians who work in a variety of settings including:
- Private Rehab centres
- Local authority /NHS commissioned services
- Prisons
- Private hospital
- NHS GP commissioned shared care addictions services
As such there is always someone available, even at night. Our Clinicians are always happy to give you our advice which is honest, impartial and totally confidential. We do not charge for advice or to make a referral on your behalf.
Our clinicians only charge for private treatment in the home. Our 24 hour addiction help and advice is free to all. We don’t just help with alcohol addiction but all addictive substances and behavioural addictions.
How Can Find Me a Rehab Help?
We are clinicians and not salespeople. Our aim is solely to ensure you have the right information before you make a decision as to where you want to go for treatment. There are different rehab centres, different therapeutic approaches as well as low cost and high end options.
As clinicians we are keen to ensure you don’t spend money you don’t need to on something you don’t need. The essential elements of rehab treatment haven’t changed for decades and they don’t need to:
- Detox (for those who need it)
- Group therapy
- Adjunctive weekly individual therapy session (nearly all centres provide this)
- Relapse prevention skills workshops
- Aftercare
Because we work in rehab centres we can guide you on where to go. All are regulated by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) which is a legal requirement.
This means, wherever you go, you can be assured of safe and effective treatment. However, there is no need to pay over the top for things that won’t benefit you.
They certainly won’t do you any harm but organic green tea from the Himalayas, yoga with a goat and having your shakra realigned are really not necessary!
Do I Need a 12 Step Based Centre?
No. It really doesn’t matter if the centre is 12 STEP based, SMART or uses an eclectic mix. All that matters is that you get into recovery. Our advice is to ignore those who say “12 steps doesn’t work”.
Millions of people, for nearly one hundred years, have used the 12 steps model and continue to live lives of abstinence, sobriety and freedom from addiction.
Like all things in life, new ideas come along, such as SMART or eclectic models. Getting hung up on which one you think it best suited for you is time wasted. Group therapy works if you work at it. That might sound cliched but it is a reality.
Will I Need a Detox?
Possibly. It all depends on what you are taking, how you take it and for how long you have been taking it. Not every substance will require a detox.
Cocaine, for example, is a very short acting drug and no detox is required though the on-site clinician will prescribe some adjunctive medication on an “as and when” basis if you are struggling.
When you use drugs/alcohol/prescribed medication (even Caffeine) they affect receptors on your brain. They either open up or close chemical channels meaning naturally occurring chemicals are either released in abundance or kept back. Some partially open or close channels.
After a time using drugs and alcohol your brain becomes used to them being on the receptors. This is known as tolerance. In time, you will need more and more to have the same effect as the amount you used when you first started using.
If you stop using (or reduce too quickly) your brain can not make immediate adjustments. As such the chemical messaging will be in a state of flux.
It is this that causes your body to go into withdrawal: The wrong chemicals are released or held back. A detox has nothing to do with flushing toxins from the system or willpower. It is all about science.
Detox medication mimics the actions of the drugs or alcohol you have been taking. This will dampen down and eventually stop the withdrawals. For certain clients, such as alcohol and Ketamine dependent: this is lifesaving treatment. Call and ask us anything. We provide 24 Hour Addiction Help.
Why Do I Need Rehab?
A detox, though life saving for those who need one, is only one element of addiction recovery. Without therapy the chances of you staying sober/abstinent are akin to avoiding an iceberg on the Titanic.
No one chooses to be an addict. It is not a choice but a very serious illness with a high mortality rate. Addiction is the symptom of something that has gone wrong.
It could be unresolved trauma from childhood, untreated depression or anxiety. For some there are relationship difficulties, work stress.
Everyone is welcome in rehab. Our clinicians have treated rock stars, billionaires, plumbers, electricians, cleaning ladies: It matters not. Addiction is a truly equal opportunities illness.
The therapy team know how to help. Many therapists and support staff who work in rehabs are in active recovery and have years of sobriety and abstinence under their belt.
How Is Therapy Delivered In Rehab?
As soon as you are able to join in, you will be welcomed into the therapy groups and sessions. Some clients may need a day or two just because of their physical frailty in the early stages of detox.
Every centre in the world uses a group therapy model. Why? Because it works. Individual therapy is a very emotionally draining process which is why centres only schedule one hour of this a week.
An essential element of therapy is relapse prevention. Through workshops and roleplay, you will learn essential psychological tools that you can use to help you deal with challenging situations for when you go home. Relapse happens: Fact.
While it doesn’t happen to everyone you can not escape alcohol and drugs in society. Knowing how to say no when confronted with them will be an invaluable skill.
The final element of recovery is aftercare. This is usually a weekly meeting (in person or via video conferencing) and telephone check ins and support.
Can I Have Treatment At Home?
In limited circumstances: Yes.
Only a small number of people can have treatment at home. Normally this is reserved for those with a mild dependency on alcohol and cocaine.
The main drawback with home treatment is that it doesn’t provide the therapy needed. While we can arrange an addictions specialist therapist we always prefer clients to be in a rehab centre.
Those who choose to have treatment at home often relapse: very quickly. Usually by the end of the first week. This is why we strongly advise against it. If you don’t deal with why you are in active addiction you can not hope to stay sober and abstinent.
Some people, when they leave rehab, will relapse. Sadly, they often think they can detox themselves at home and don’t need therapy.
This is just not true. We often get calls like this and , even if the person is appropriate for home treatment we will insist on a comprehensive support and therapy package. It would be wholly unethical not to.
Arranging treatment at home can, in most cases, actually cost more than residential treatment. If you have questions and need 24 Hour Addiction help: call or email.
